Allen Baseball Team Receives VIP MLB Experience

Allen baseball team members at Citzen's Bank Park, PhiladelphiaLast week, through Major League Baseball’s RBI program, a portion of the Allen baseball team were the guests of MLB’s event at the Little League World Series (LLWS) in Williamsport, PA.  Coach Leskosky was able to take five of our players to watch four of the LLWS games as well as attend the Little League Classic between the Mets and Phillies,  held at Historic Bowman Field.

Bowman Field only holds a little over 2,500 fans (1/4 of Coca Cola Park), making this a VERY difficult ticket to get.  Our players were able to meet, take pictures with, and get a ton of autographs from MLB players as well as the Little League players from all around the world, making it quite the experience!

Also last week, nine players from the team were afforded the opportunity to attend the MLB "PLAY" Clinic at Citzen's Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies.

PLAY (Promoting a Lifetime of Activity for Youth) is a public awareness campaign developed by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS) in 2004 to combat child obesity. Through a series of fitness programs at all 30 MLB ballparks, PLAY was designed to encourage youth throughout the country to be active, eat right and sustain a healthy lifestyle. Phillies trainers worked with participants on how to stretch and warm-up their bodies and ran them through a number of exercises used by the Phillies players.

In addition, our players were able to listen and ask questions of Phillies pitcher Jake Arrieta, who spoke about the importance of taking care of their bodies, proper nutrition, mental focus on the field as well as the classroom, and a number of other topics.  They also got to hear from the Taylor Hooten Foundation about the dangers of steroids and other PED’s, and learned how to go about becoming more aware of the things they put in their bodies.

After the clinic, the boys were treated to tickets to the Nationals vs Phillies game, and also got to meet one of my own former players, who is now a scout in the Chicago Cubs organization.
