Lehigh Valley Soccer Scholar Athlete
The Allentown School District and William Allen High School have always placed high value on celebrating the success of our students. Today, it is with great pride that I get to inform you of another remarkable achievement by one of our own here at William Allen High School. Student-Athlete Grace Edinger has been named the 2020-2021 Lehigh Valley Soccer Scholar Athlete of the Year. This award is presented every year by the Lehigh Valley Soccer Scholar Athlete Foundation. A total of 45 Lehigh Valley High Schools participate in this program. To be nominated and be named as your respective high school's representative is an honor in itself - but to WIN the award is truly a wonderful accomplishment that should be celebrated. Here is a quote that was provided to us on behalf of the foundation and why they selected Grace as the winner:
“We were duly impressed with Grace's ability on the athletic field and she displayed outstanding determination to raise the level of the players and teammates around her despite being 'outgunned' by her opponents many times. Some of our Board members had the pleasure of watching Grace (in person as referees or chance) play this season and her selflessness, positive leadership and ability struck a chord with our Board of Directors. Her elite academic achievements and extracurricular involvement are equally noteworthy.”
Grace is the FIRST EVER William Allen female to win the award and she is only the SECOND award winner from William Allen since the inaugural award was bestowed on William Allen student athlete, Ted Zeller, in 1984. On behalf of the William Allen Athletic Department and William Allen High school, we ask you to join us in celebrating Grace Edinger as this year's Lehigh Valley Soccer Scholar Athlete of the Year.

In order to reserve a copy of the 2021 edition of William Allen High School's Yearbook, Comus, students must visit the Jostens Yearbook site. The yearbook cost is $63.60, and payment may be made using a debit card or a credit card. We are unable to accept cash or check payments at this time.

Weekly Dental Tip - Brought to you by The American Dental Association and The Allentown School District Dental Hygienists
BAD BRUSHING HABIT TO BREAK IN 2021: Keeping Your Toothbrush for Too Long
The ADA recommends changing your toothbrush every 3 - 4 months, so make a resolution to change your toothbrush with ever season this year. Frayed and broken bristles won't keep your teeth clean - these are signs it's time to let go. When shopping, look for one with the ADA Seal of Acceptance.
Not Brushing Long Enough
Speed demons, listen up! Your teeth should be brushed for a full two minutes, twice per day. Most of us fall short —the average time most people spend brushing is 45 seconds. If you’re racing through cleaning, try setting a timer. Or distract yourself by humming your favorite tune!
Brushing Too Hard
Be gentle with your teeth. You may think brushing harder will remove more leftover food and the bacteria that loves to eat it, but a gentle
brushing is all that’s needed. Too much pressure may damage your gums.
Using a Brush That's Not the Best Fit for You
There are many toothbrushes that can leave your teeth fresh and clean, including manual and power brushes. Both get the job done. Try different types until you find one you're
comfortable with. For example, a power brush can be easier to hold and does some of the work for you if you have trouble brushing. No matter which you choose remember that it's not all about the brush—a clean mouth is really up to the brusher!
Using a Brush with Hard Bristles
Soft bristles are a safe bet. And be mindful to be gentle, especially where your gums and teeth meet, as you brush. Talk to your dentist about what kind of toothbrush is best for you.
